July Mantel

Summer mantels are my favorite since I adore shells and have been collecting them since I was a girl growing up by the ocean.   I've kept it simple this month but I also wanted to show off one of the presents that Martha made for my birthday last year.  I always look forward to her beautifully packaged gifts and many times the wrapping is saved for it's beauty as well!   It is the monogrammed 'R' envelope resting on the easel with the most gorgeous Victorian initial.  She stitched up the sides and placed a button and vintage ribbon to tie it all together.  Inside was a fabulous scrapbook which I will cherish forever!

Look for my most amazing Mermaid wall hanging that she made for my birthday this year in 'Our Romantic Homes'.  What a lucky girl I am!

The original mantel board was very plain and small and that surely was one of the first things replaced.   This wonderful mantel originally had side boards which did not work for the space and had to go.   I then painted the fireplace bricks to soften the look and hung pretty plates which get changed every so often.  I love this look!

The conch shell which is the star of the show has a little starfish tucked inside with one resting beside it.  It is sitting on a delicate porcelain tray.

The clear bottle contains my daughter Bethany's clever wedding invitation!   She'll have a summer wedding in New England by the sea with her English beau Mark.  There is an itinerary for the entire week leading up to the event including a traditional clam bake and a Bridal Trousseau Tea.

A pretty shabby chic plate, rose salt/pepper set and a stunning vintage lace mantel covering make me very happy!  Just like good friends.
