mantel of the month

April arrives in New England with promise of longer and warmer days, but until our garden roses bloom, a trip to the florist for the prettiest shade of pink in a glass pitcher dresses up our April mantel. We've created a chunky candle holder from a vintage lamp base and wrapped a strand of pearl garland around the candle to soften it. Lace trimmed hankies tucked here and there are so charming! We were really excited to find a box lot of creamers at auction and this beauty is one of our favorites. The picture of the little angel in the frame was processed at a local camera store in a 'warm' finish. Not black and white, nor sepia, it's beautiful and can be done with color film as well. The frame and the teapot are from our Romance Collection and compliment the vintage cup and saucer. Small birds in different sizes are great fillers for those empty spaces that call for a little whimsy. Discovering some new secrets of romantic decorating is always fun and inspiring. Happy Spring!
